Françoise de Sévigné, born in Paris on October 10, 1646 and died on August 13, 1705 in Marseille, in the Mazargues district, Countess of Grignan, was the main recipient of letters from her mother, Madame de Sévigné. Françoise de Sévigné is the daughter of Henri, Marquis de Sévigné, Breton gentleman, and the letter writer Marie de Rabutin-Chantal, Marquise de Sévigné, also known as Madame de Sévigné. In her youth, she was celebrated for her beauty: at the Ballet des Arts, in 1663, barely aged sixteen, she had the honor of dancing the first entry with King Louis XIV, alongside Henrietta of England, sister-in-law of the king, of Mademoiselle Louise de La Vallière and of Mademoiselle Françoise-Athénaïs de Mortemart.
