These are authentic DMV issued steel sheet blue plates with CALIFORNIA stamped close together --- unlike 1975+ blue plates which were made of aluminum and had C A L I F O R N I A stamped further apart & had smaller window tag boxes too.

Avoid restored plates at all costs. Only invest in all original paint plates. Restored plates never look right.
To register these to your 1970 to 1980 car in California, you simply need a matching year tag/sticker showing on these plates to get approval in the DMV's Year of Manufacture program to the 1970 through 1980 year car you want to register these to (the YOM REG 352 form application fails to mention that!).

Be careful as many sets of plates out there being sold are nothing more than wall hangers. These are all verified DMV CLEAR and no longer in their system. In fact, they have been off the road for over 50 years....
Do not buy those 'new' black legacy plates and run them on your 70s car. Lame, and a waste of $80 a year. And your 1970s car better not have white plates on it. These only cost $10 a year to run.
