	ITEM DESCRIPTION: Here is an Absolutely Gorgeous Vintage 1966 Color Halftone Print (not a more-modern reproduction) Depicting a Windy & Threatening Winter Storm Over a Buffalo, NY Neighborhood with the Sun Beams Briefly Breaking Through the Dark & Ominous Storm Clouds titled, “December Storm”, after the original watercolor painting by the famous listed painter, ‘Charles Ephraim Burchfield’ (American, 1893-1967), whose printed monogram signature & date-range, ‘CEB, 1941-60’, appears lower-right in image corner. About the Original Painting: Spiritually rich, “December Storm” symbolizes hope in the face of World War II, having been started the day before the attack on Pearl Harbor. It depicts a burst of sunlight from behind storm clouds above houses viewed from Burchfield's own backyard. Burchfield once wrote a description of “December Storm” which read, “A sunburst occurring during a violent storm in December, with rain changing to snow. The picture was started out-of-doors at the top of our yard in Gardenville. The sudden burst of sunlight was unforeseen by me, so the painting therefore becomes spontaneous and unplanned, inasmuch as the sunburst dominates in the finished painting. The original sketch was added to and completely reworked over a period of years in the studio.” The original work was done in watercolor, charcoal and white conté crayon on seamed paper. The new Burchfield-Penney Art Center Museum opened November 22, 2008 on the campus of Buffalo State College and the original “December Storm” painting hung on the wall as soon as you walked into the first section of the galleries. The History of the Print: This piece was specially printed for the opening of the Burchfield-Penney Art Center on December 9, 1966 and Charles Burchfield cut the ribbon himself, which officially opened the Center. The first copies of the Print went to Joan & Peter Andrews, who had generously donated the painting, “December Storm” to the college in 1964, which became the cornerstone of the Burchfield Collection, which has since grown to enormous proportions since then. Copies of the Print were also given to Charles and Bertha Burchfield, their daughter Martha Burchfield Richter, Charles’ sister, Louise Burchfield, members of the Foundation Board of Trustees and Burchfield Center Committee members. The inaugural exhibition in 1966 featured eighteen Burchfield masterworks. Much to the shock of family, friends and the art community, Charles Burchfield died suddenly of a heart attack just a month and a day after the museum’s inauguration (Excerpts from: tfaoi site). Publisher & Print Info: The title, artist’s name & collection info, ‘December Storm by Charles E. Burchfield, Original in the Burchfield Center, Buffalo State University College, Buffalo, New York’, appears printed lower-middle in the bottom outer margin area; and the publishing date with publisher name & location, ‘Published in 1966 by the Buffalo State College Alumni Foundation, Inc., Buffalo, New York’, appears printed upper-left in the outer margin corner; and the copyright info, date & alumni info, ‘Copyright 1966 Buffalo State College Alumni Foundation, Inc.’, appears printed very tiny in the lower-left image corner; and the printer info & location, ‘Printed by Niagara Lithograph Company, Buffalo, New York’, appears printed lower-right in the bottom outer margin corner. The Print in on a nice medium-heavier weight ivory-colored wove paper stock. Size & Condition: The size with wide margins is 26-1/8” x 33-7/8”, Image size is 21-3/4” x 30”. The Print is in Excellent Popular condition with absolutely no color fade at all on this vintage Print which has been tucked away in a drawer amongst other lithos & prints since it was purchased by Walter Meibohm and hasn’t seen the light-of-day in all this time… It’s as beautiful as the day it was printed and is as ‘mint’ as any collector could hope to find in its original never-framed condition—this will look stunning all framed-up! No Tears and No Foxing! No real or significant damage at all on this gorgeous Print with the completely negligible exceptions of: Ultra-minimal, very slight & very small crescent-creases scattered here & there in the image area which aren’t even noticeable except from the back; Only a few extremely minimal small creases and extremely minimal edge wear in the outer margin areas as well as a couple ultra-tiny dog-ear bends in a couple outer margin corners—all of which are completely negligible since the outer margins can easily be trimmed off or matted & framed out. Negligible/no real or noticeable toning of the Print from age, especially amidst the ivory color of the paper stock itself. This gorgeous vintage print has never been framed which is always more desirable to collectors since it has never been exposed to older non-archival materials, matburn or lightfade.
