The electric locomotives of the EuroSprinter family from Siemens are known in Germany as the class 182. With the power of 6,400 kW, they reach a maximum speed of 230 km/h.
As of 2009, DB Fernverkehr had a shortage of high-speed locomotives for EuroCity traffic. This was remedied by leasing the ES 64 U2 (Group 182) from the MRCE. Since the timetable change in 2010, the EuroCity 6/7 train pair is hauled by one of these locomotives.
