You are bidding on a post WWII (1956-57) Federal Republic of Germany (FRG) /West German Army Parachute Badge with Oval. The badge is unused and is in good condition with minor signs of wear and age. The parachute badge is the the same as the US Army Basic Parachute badge that is mounted on a black, red, & gold which are the national colors of the FRG. The reverse side of the badge has black cloth backing. An example of this badge can be found on Plate 9 in Bragg & Turner's "Parachute Badges & Insignia of the World" reference book.  With the establishment of the Bundeswehr (West German Army) in 1955 it was decided to create an airborne brigade. In 1956 the 26th Airborne Brigade (Abn Bde) was formed and was trained by the US Army’s 11th Abn Division’s Parachute School located in Augsburg, Germany. Upon successful completion of the parachute school the soldiers of the 26th Abn Bde were authorized to wear the US Army Parachute Badge. From 1956 to 1957 the 26th Abn Bde would utilize the US Army style of parachute badges (basic, senior, & master) and qualification criteria. In 1958 the 26th Abn Bde would establish their own parachute school located at Altenstadt/Schongau in Bavaria as well as their own parachute badge.
