This is an Antique 39 Star 1889 American Flag Elongated Stripes 767676 Pattern 23x12.

The 39 star flag was never an official American Flag. In 1889 Flag manufacturers gambled that the Dakota territories were to come into the union as a single state, so they manufactured flags with 39 stars. However, North and South Dakota became the 39th and 40th states, respectively, on Nov. 2, 1889. And then Montana became the 41st state just six days later.

The star pattern is 7, 6, 7, 6, 7, 6 vertically
