Custom Built Sub One-Watt Hybrid Tube Rock Guitar Amp!

Available for Buy-It-Now is a custom designed and built sub one-watt rock guitar amplifier.

The following tech explanation is provided to show the thought behind the design and implementation to give you a better idea of what to expect. Some of you may understand, while others may just be along for the ride.

Here we go:

The input stage develops an asymmetrical, soft clipping, overdrive by the use of three cascaded LND150 DMOSfets biased well within the saturation region (as depicted by the top, curved line in the included graph from the LND150 data sheet). This “saturation region” is euphemistically called the “triode region” in comparison to curves produced by preamp tubes, such as the 12AX7. Mimicry. Similar to how an overdrive pedal attempts to sound like a tube using solid-state devices. The result: a tube-like soft overdrive that is long on sustain and the development of harmonics.  The output of this preamp stage feeds a high voltage driver stage using another LND150, via the volume control, to produce enough drive to ultimately saturate a 6AK6 pentode tube to produce about a watt of output into an 8 ohm cabinet.  Tapped off of the output are line level signals to produce headphone out, as well as line out to feed recording, front of house, or monitors as desired.

An internal load allows the headphones and line out to work with or without a speaker. Stereo headphones of studio type 32 ohm, or higher, can be used.  Start at lower volume and work up to a comfortable level.

This is a rocker amp for sure.

I build into recycled ATX computer power supplies.  Generally pulls, meaning some are scratched and slightly dented or dimpled.  I write it off as character only to benefit from tough steel construction that is easily tooled.  Included is a pic of the scratches present on the top of this one.

The schematic is the exact circuit applied.

Power cord is included!

Hope you enjoyed the look!  And, should you purchase, may you be rewarded with an excellent guitar amp!
