DESCRIPTION

Bound in a smart, quarter morocco with cloth to the boards.

Written entirely in the original French. 

This scarce work is comprised of the works of 17th century French dramatist, Jean-Baptiste Racine, who was labelled as one of the three great French playwrights of his time. This collection includes Racine's plays 'La Thebaide', 'Britannicus' and 'Mithridate', among others. With twelve plays altogether, comprised of eleven "tragedies" and one "comedie".

Edited by French journalist and literary critic, Louis Simon Auger, who provides a chapter on the life of Racine, as well as presenting his works.

Illustrated with a plate to the start of each play, and a frontispiece to the work, with thirteen plates altogether. Collated, complete.


CONDITION

Bound in a smart, quarter morocco with cloth to the boards. Externally, very good, with light rubbing to the spine and the odd mark. Light bumping to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean, with one or two spots to the first and last pages.
