DESCRIPTION

The second edition of this vanishingly scarce novel.

Inscribed to the half title 'To George Stewart, Esq LLD with best compliments of the Author', dated July 1895.

With letters from the author addressed to the same pasted to the front and rear free endpaper. The first letter begins 'At length I am able to beg your acceptance (by Book post today), of copy of a little work of fancy [...] written in, not for, Canada, English in tone - for of Englishe you know - published in England about a month since and which ran so rapidly into a 2nd edition that I had difficulty in obtaining copies until now'.

He expresses that 'fairy literature is always written for juveniles, with the scene laid in some impossible remote time; This new departure of mine into the modern is not juvenile, very much the other way'. 'There are one or two mild religiopolitical allusions that may not be altogether pleasing to your constituents; but, in all probability the book will not be offered here'.

The second letter, to the rear of the work, thanks George Stewart for a positive response to the work, and discusses his response, and provides information on what the author intends to write next.

A very scarce work from the Scottish-Canadian author, journalist, farmer and businessman John Hunter-Duvar.
With an eight page catalogue to the rear dated April 1895.
