This Victorian German linen embroidered
pillow cover is just an amazing textile. This
is a 25 X 30 piece of white and very old
linen that was hand embroidered with a
prayer for the Lord's protection from evil
in German. Red and Blue threads worked
the design then another piece of linen was
hand sewn with tiny little stitches to the
back to hide the embroidery stitching. These
cloths were simply laid across a pillow
during the day. The collector where we
found this piece told us a sign of wealth
and affluence for Victorians was down.
The more down pillows and cushions
you had the higher your status. We find
only one issue on the 120 year old textile.
There is some light bleeding of the blue
thread on the first letter D. We took a
close up photo so please check. No
other issues, stains, tears or problems.
All edges have a machine 1.25" lace trim.
Arrives ready to drape on your bed pillow
or sew into a sham. Sale supports Vermont's
