A lovely Rolling Moon Oak & Mahogany and Rosewood Longcase / Grandfather clock which has been beautifully inlaid. Nice original clock with dial original to movement and to case.

The case is in good condition for the age as can be seen from the photographs but being sold for restoration. The dial is a little fades in places but the name can still be read as  'G. Slater Burslem'.

If we start with the hood, this has swan necks with arched molded cornice and finished with brass pateras. The hood and hood door is nicely inlaid with stringing. The hood door is flanked by full turned columns. Moving down to the trunk, the lovely shaped door is cross banded in mahogany and has a conch shell inlaid to the door, it is then flanked by full turned columns. The door is complete with it's lock but there is NO key.

The base has a shaped applied panel which is mahogany cross banded and the front corners are canted.

The movement is 8 day with Rolling Moon / Moon Phase to the arch with subsidiary second dial and date aperture. The four corners are beautifully adorned with flowers and birds to the center. The has the rolling moon which incorporates the two moons a galleon at sea and a historic building scene.  The clock has very pretty fingers. The clock has a pendulum but does NOT have any weights or a winding key and is being sold for restoration.

There is one  'G. Slater Burslem'  listed in 'Lancashire clocks and clockmakers by Brian Loomes': 'Slater, George. Burslem. Watchmaker and Clockmaker. 1842-60.'

The approximate MAXIMUM dimensions are:  87 inches / 221 cm high, 22 1/2 inches / 57 cm wide across hood , 16 inches / 40.5 cm wide across trunk,  19 3/4 inches / 50.5 cm wide across base x 9 1/2 inches / 24 cm deep
