Artist Ryan Travis Christian has produced a new risograph print edition in support of Printed Matter and Perfectly Acceptable Press for the occasion of EXPO Chicago. Impacted by Chicago-style figuration, Christian’s cartoon characters are uncanny and familiar, often conveying ominous messages. Finding inspiration in vintage political cartoons and hand-drawn animation, the artist creates absurd and often personal narratives that reflect on a complicated contemporary existence.

Ryan Travis Christian’s artwork has been included in solo and two-person shows in Hong Kong, New York, Santa Monica, CA, and the Contemporary Art Museum in Raleigh, NC. Internationally, Christian has exhibited his work in group shows in Antwerp, Berlin, Brussels, Copenhagen, Detroit, Los Angeles, London, New York, Paris, Reykjavik, Rotterdam, San Francisco, and Toronto. His work has been written about in frieze, ArtNews, Art Papers, Juxtapoz, New American Paintings, Artsy, Artspace, Daily Serving, Indy Week and the Associated PressDAZED recently named Christian as one of the “top ten artists working with monochrome.” He is represented by Western Exhibitions in Chicago and lives and works in the Chicagoland area.
