Offered for your consideration is a vintage Medford .046” (1.1mm) propelling pencil, USA-manufactured c.1940. This pencil features a green and pearl cap and barrel with gold-plated metal clip and trim.

So, please see my large photos and read the remaining description to decide if this uncommon Medford pencil should be yours.

This Medford pencil is in clean, good condition. It measures 5” long by ⅜” wide. There are no cracks or dings, just a small chip at cap top, some tarnish/finish loss to the plating, several scratches on the writing cone, and the typical light use and storage marks from the years. Plus, the clip with full ball rests firmly on the body with no gap. Overall, this neat old pencil presents quite nicely.

Most importantly, the pencil works perfectly. It uses .046” (1.1mm) lead in its simple and dependable spiral mechanism and extends it reliably with a rotation of the barrel; retraction of the lead, when needed, requires a turn in the opposite direction. Plus, the eraser is present and looks practically unused, but has hardened from the years as expected.

And I’m including full tube of EVERSHARP lead, as pictured, for the new owner’s convenience. Lastly, the pencil has adequate mass, nice balance, and feels great on paper, especially with the large, soft lead of yesteryear that many of us still prefer!

As pictured and described, this remarkable Medford pencil is offered at a competitive price.
