Offered for your consideration is a well-preserved vintage .046” (1.1mm) phone dialer pencil.  It’s a full-size pencil with lengthy clear acrylic dialer, flat on one side to eliminate rolling, and bears a promotion for Northside Lumber of Jackson, Tennessee.  However, there is no manufacturer name on the pencil or underlying mechanism.  I believe it was manufactured in the USA sometime in the 1940’s, early 1950’s perhaps, but have no way of knowing more.

So, please see my large photos and read the remaining description to decide if this neat dialer pencil should become yours.

This dialer pencil is in clean, near excellent condition.  It’s made of hard plastic, off-white on top, black bottom, with gold-tone clip/trim, and measures a full 6¼” long (including the non-removable dialer) by 7/16” thick for the barrel and ½” on the dialer.  There are no cracks, chips, or dings, just a bit of light tarnish on the metal parts and a bit of yellowing to the barrel, as pictured.  The promo text and graphic look great.  I did notice the dialer rests slightly askew and it’s seemingly how it left the manufacturing process.  Plus, the clip rests firmly on the body with no gap.  Overall, this old pencil presents very nicely.

Most importantly, the pencil works perfectly.  It uses .046” (1.1 mm) lead in its simple and dependable spiral mechanism and extends it reliably with a rotation of the writing cone; retraction of the lead, when needed, takes a turn in the opposite direction. Plus, the eraser is present and looks unused, but has hardened from the years as expected.  And, I can hear extra leads in the customary place under the eraser, but didn’t want to risk breaking it to see how many!

Lastly, the pencil has good mass, proper balance, and feels great on paper, especially with the large, soft lead of yesteryear that many of us still prefer!

As pictured and described, this uncommon style of phone dialer pencil is offered at a competitive price.
