This listing is for a beautiful Victorian, antique and all original silver plate and glass pickle castor, possibly Swedish. The castor measures 10 inches high to the top of the handle and is 8 inches at its widest. The glass insert measures 6 inches high to the finial on the cover and is 4 3/4 inches in diameter across the bottom of the jar.
This fine silver plate piece features a round base with 4 cabriole feet in the Rococo style. It has oval medallions around the base with a scrolling acanthus leaf handle that raises above the base. The glass jar is acid etched and hand painted with a large landscape scene featuring a mother and child walking on a large estate. The painting is further enhanced with heavy applied gold enameling. The castor is marked on verso "G.A.B. NS 1900", this for a possible Swedish maker.
The silver plate pickle castor and glass jar are in excellent condition. The glass jar has a small chip on the top rim which is covered once the lid is on. Please see the detailed photographs for more on the look and condition of this fine piece.
