This is a used Sigma AF Zoom Lens 75-200 mm f/2.8-3.5 for Minolta A-mount autofocus cameras (Minolta Dynax and Maxxum, A-mount Sony Alpha). It's clean with little or no internal dust and no apparent fungus, and optically, mechanically, and cosmetically very good. I'm supplying it with its original front and rear caps and case, a skylight filter, and a metal hood which I think is original. Reviews tell me that it is an f2.8 lens out to 135mm, then goes to f3.2 and eventually f3.5 at 200mm.

This worked when I tried it on a Minolta Dynax 404si 35mm body, autofocus seemed a little slow but that isn't uncommon with early lenses.  Unfortunately it was completely unresponsive when I tried it on a Sony A230 DSLR, the camera didn't recognize it at all and gave a "no lens" error message. This probably means that it has a chip set that was developed before the introduction of DSLRs, and doesn't use some proprietary codes that were introduced later. I've checked on line and there were apparently chip upgrades available at one time - I suspect that they may be hard to get now. It's possible that I've simply been unlucky with my choice of DSLR - the D230 wasn't a high-end model, and it may work on another model.

Since the Sony body wouldn't work, I took test photos with a Panasonic Lumix DMC-G1 bridge camera and an A-mount to Micro 4/3 adapter. Micro 4/3 uses a small sensor and angular coverage is about half of a full-frame 35mm camera, about the same as a 150mm-400mm lens on 35mm. This adapter doesn't have any electronics and won't set the aperture to an exact value; I think all pictures were taken at approximately f8 but I'm not sure. Weather was bright late afternoon.
Church (230 yards) Both 1/4000th f8?
Tree (about 30 yards)1/1000th and 1/400th f8
Garden (bird bath 17 yards) 1/200th and 1/250th f8
Coin and brick bits (about 7ft) 1/1600 and 1/1000th f8
Plants at end of roof (11ft) 1/800th and 1/320th f8
Minolta A adapters like this are available for most if not all mirrorless cameras; there are versions for some SLRs, most notably Canon EF, but usually they have to incorporate a lens to allow them to focus to infinity.
