the JNR class c62 is the largest steam locomotive ever built in japan; 49 were constructed by hitachi and kawasaki heavy industries in the years immediately after WWll...the c62 was designed for high speed passenger service on the main trunk line between tokyo and osaka.....because of the severe shortages of the immediate post war years and the tight control exercised by the US occupation administration, the c62 was a amalgamation of d51 boilers and passenger locomotive driving gear.....the need for freight locomotives was rapidly declining after the war as the need for passenger locomotives geometrically increased with rapid urbanization underway....reusing the excess was an obvious solution....after the electrification of the main trunk lines on honshu island, the c62 ....was transferred to kyushu island and hokkaido island passenger service...obsolescence occurred in the early 1970s as these islands were also electrified...........this c62 model is arrayed for service on the tokaido main line on honshu....

this 2007 release in the kato c62 series features the core-less motor design which insures smooth and realistic operation through all speed ranges and the large sprued number boards which allows a less fractious installation process......the other accessories are a coupler alternative for the tender side, the remaining number board choices, and a head mark alternative for original owner installed selection.....currently, the z02-0282 functioning knuckle coupler is installed with z02-0281 rapido coupler available in the accessory pack ........instructions in japanese with pictures will guide the accessory manipulation process........
