This exceptional coin marks a significant departure from previous depictions by featuring solely the Hand without accompanying the recipient of divine blessing. In earlier iterations, known as Manus Dei, this motif symbolized God’s favor, typically positioned above a revered figure, often a monarch. For instance, on a fourth-century Roman coin, the Hand guides the Christian emperor Constantine towards Heaven. Presenting the Hand in isolation carries a poignant implication, suggesting that the bearer of the coin shares in God’s divine influence. Dubbed the "Hand Heller," this coin transcends mere luck, embodying a profound sense of blessedness.

Following the decline of the Hohenstaufen dynasty, Hall successfully defended itself against territorial claims from neighboring noble families, notably the Schenken von Limpurg. The conflict reached resolution in 1280 under Rudolph I of Habsburg, facilitating Hall's unimpeded evolution into a Free Imperial City within the Holy Roman Empire. Emperor Louis IV the Bavarian's grant of a constitution in 1340 quelled internal strife, known as the Erste Zwietracht, ushering in an era of governance by the Inner Council. Comprising twelve nobles, six "middle burghers," and eight craftsmen, this council steered the city towards stability and prosperity.
