This auction is for my 1958 Standard 10 ( Triumph )
I could write many pages detailing its history so will try
to summarise the key points. All the pics have been taken Sunday 5 May 2024
Original owner bought it Dec 2013, drove it around for a
year before submitting it to www.jswl.co.uk , a
very well respected classic car restoration company. It went in Dec 2014 and
came out May 2015, total cost £ 11,323. That included new set of Yokohama 155
80 13 tyres, full brake overhaul, fitting a set of inertial seat belts, plus
numerous other jobs as detailed on the receipts. A testament to the restoration
work is that after more than 8 years the bodywork is still excellent without
any signs of rust, bubbling etc. The pics show that all panels were zinc coated
with all internals wax oiled.
I have all the vat receipts as in pic, also have a cd with
100 pictures detailing exactly what was done.
Unusually this car has been MOT’d every year since May 2015.
The previous owner was an enthusiast but without any mechanical skills
whatsoever , so he had it MOT’d and serviced every year for peace of mind that
it was safe and roadworthy. I have all
the vat receipts for all work completed from May 2015 until may 2022. His
spending including buying the car from dec 2013 to sept 2023 when I bought it ,
totals to £ 16,445.
I am a v old qualified mechanic so it was the ideal car for
me to buy as it only required some mechanical work to make as my daily driver.
So since I’ve had it, a list of the most important repairs
I’ve completed.
Rebuild rear diff as it was howling on overrun, now silent.
Strip and ultrasonic clean the carb, re-set float height etc, fit a modern
paper air filter ( I have the original) , fit a new full stainless steel
exhaust system. Replace fuel line front to rear, replace missing grease nipples
and a thorough grease up front to back, flush cooling system, fit new water
pump, fanbelt, replenish anti freeze concentrate . re-build distributor with
new internal wiring, points, condenser etc, completed a proper major service,
have it MOT’d. My spending which is only for parts is approx. £740. I’ve
covered a few hundred miles without any problems. The heater is amazing, the
demisters actually work better than my modern car. There are obviously some
additional cosmetic work to complete, the front bumper has had a ding, I’ve
straightened it out quite well but its not perfect, most of the chrome is
showing its age, none peeling off, just old and faded. The cardboard backing
behind the dashboard has water stain marks although the shelf is structurally
sound.
So the big question is why am I selling it ? It would be a
most excellent daily driver for 9 months of the year, the roads where I live
are not good during the winter months. I’ve got stuck twice whilst having to
pull over to allow a tractor to come past. Also our local council keep all the
roads very well gritted .
Pricing it has been
difficult. I know these little cars don’t sell for as much as other more popular
makes.
I think the buy it now £4,250 is a fair price, I’m not
desperate to sell so don’t bother with any silly offers.
Any questions, viewing, roadtest, ( roadtest subject to
weather as the farm where I keep it becomes a mud bath when raining) any inspections, more pics or any questions just please ask.
Location PO7, about 5 miles north of Portsmouth.
