This is one of my favourite pieces of kitsch design. At first sight it looks like a classical urn, with curved lines and sinuous outline. Look again however.......and you have to smile at the twin fish weaving in and out of the handles as they raise the urn up from the seabed.........or maybe they are going in for a cheeky fish-kiss. The colours are delicious - iridescent lagoon blue and golden beach yellow with touches of grey and gold gilt to high-light the fish and  the sea-bed. It is quite an impressive piece - 11.5 inches high x 10 inches wide x 3.5 inches deep and is in perfect condition.
I think it would look wonderful in an aquarium, planted up with an aquarium plant and the live fish could weave in and out of the ceramic fish. But then I do have some strange ideas. It would look beautiful in a vintage themed bathroom or  indeed anywhere in a home with a dash of quirky style.
I am pretty confident that it is Italian mid century in origin, but am unable to make out what is written on the base. If anyone does know........please tell me. One word I looked up turned out to be a bit rude, so I must have read it wrong.......
Any questions please ask.
