A lovely, likely late 18th century, Qianlong period Chinese export blue and white matching porcelain tea bowl and saucer set. The simple straight-edged rounded form features a double-banded blue and white collar of geometric and blossoms/foliage design within a double gilt rim. The inside of the saucer and the outside of the bowl feature garden scenes with a classic but quite rare 'two moths' design. In Oriental symbolism a moth represents a departed soul returning to visit, similar to some people's beliefs regarding Robins in English culture today. A rather beautiful small collector's item.

Sadly, there are some damages and this is reflected in a significant discount on the usual retail price. Please study the photos carefully

- The gilt is quite worn on both the tea bowl and the saucer which is entirely normal for items of this age

- The tea bowl has two hairline cracks and a small (2mm) manufacturing defect to the foot rim

- The saucer has been broken into three large pieces (and a couple of smaller pieces) and it has been glued back together in what I would say is a decent 'amateur' repair but there is a small piece missing from the foot rim. There are also 4-5 small nibbles to the outside rim of the saucer as you'd expect with an item of this age

There are no maker's marks to the base but in terms of age I think these are late 18th century both in terms of form and design making them likely Qianlong or maybe Jiaqing reign pieces. 

The tea bowl is 4.5cm high and just under 8cm diameter rim to rim. The saucer is 3cm high and 12.5cm diameter rim to rim. Together they weigh 167 grams.
