Gorgeous example of a Sire V7 fretless 5 in Bright Metallic Red with a bound ebony fretboard.

Sire finishes their fretboards even on ebony-laden instruments, so it’s got a layer of what is basically smooth hard epoxy on it. Very smooth!! But it works for fretless playing - no chewing up fretboard.

The strings are flatwounds - tonnes of life left in them.

The body is alder, the neck back is maple. The neck is just the right amount of slim with extremely rolled fretboard edges - super comfy. There are light lines on the fretboard marking where the frets would be so if you are a beginner at fretless especially they can be a big help with getting your intonation accuracy perfect.

Very good J-style pickups and an absolutely excellent preamp make this a tone machine. It has all the *mwah* you could want in a fretless. Played unplugged this is the loudest bass I’ve ever owned - if you believe that loud and clear unplugged tone on electric instruments translates to exceptional plugged-in tone then this is the bass for you.

The hardware is perfectly functional and the bass stays in tune very well. When I last opened the bag after a few months of non-use only one string had gone out and I think it might be because the peg got knocked when I last put it away!

The weight is extremely cromulent at just over 9 lbs. Note that because of the sheer size of the bass and my kitchen scales being small it was tricky to get an accurate weight but I think it’s either right around or pretty close to the depicted 9 lbs 3oz based on a comparison with other instruments I do know the weight of.

The only mark I can find on it is a small white dot by the base of the neck which I’ve indicated on one of the photos and I think it’s a slight imperfection in the paint rather than an indent or damage to the finish.

There might be some very very minor swirling otherwise but nothing serious or even photographable. Basically it’s in very close condition to how I was when I bought it new.

Includes the pickup cover (unused) and all the original swing tags and some adjustment tools. Also includes an original Sire gigbag which cost me £75 - it is a very good gigbag though, well-padded and sturdy.

The bang-for-buck factor on these basses is extremely high, but you probably know that if you’re even looking at this in the first place.

Happy bidding!!
