This is a fabulous solid silver vesta case made during the reign of King Edward VII. Rectangular in form, it is smothered in bright cut engraved floral motifs and scrolls, being a good reflection of the Art Nouveau period during which it was made. There is a blank cartouche on the front which means that the lucky purchaser could personalise it should they so wish. It feels tactile to hold and is made from a decent gauge of silver. A super case made by the respected silversmiths, Joseph Gloster.

Condition is excellent. There are no splits, dents or repairs, just the usual light surface scratches and marks commensurate with a piece of silver which is 114 years old.The hinge is strong, has a snap shut closing action and the lid has a nice tight fit when closed. The strike plate functions as it should. This is a highly desirable vesta case which would compliment any collection. My photographs confirm condition, however further images are available if required.

Hallmarks are crisp and show Birmingham 1910, the maker being Joseph Gloster. Established in 1880, the business operated from premises known as Lion Silver Works, Hockley Hill, Birmingham. As manufacturing silversmiths and electro platers, they produced a wide and varied range of products through to the late 1960’s.The quality of their work is reflected in this nice vesta case.

The case measures 5cm x 3.8cm and weighs 28g.

Many thanks for looking and good luck with your bidding. I will be listing more silver items from my private collection over the coming weeks and hopefully there will be something of interest to you.
