This is an attractive solid silver cigarette case made during the reign of King George V. Symmetrical in form, it has an attractive engine turned finish throughout, the design of which is a good reflection of the Art Deco period during which it was made. There is a blank cartouche on the front which means that the lucky purchaser could personalise it should they so wish. It feels tactile to hold and is made from a decent gauge of silver. A super case made by the popular silversmiths, Turner & Simpson.

Condition is very good. There are no splits or repairs, just the usual light surface scratches and marks commensurate with a piece of silver which is 94 years old.The hinge is strong, has a snap shut closing action and the lid has a nice tight fit when closed. There are a couple of minor knocks on the case but they are insignificant in my opinion and do not detract from the overall appeal. The original retaining band is still in place which is rare to see. This is a highly desirable case which would compliment any collection. My photographs confirm condition, however further images are available if required.

Hallmarks are crisp and show Birmingham 1930, the maker being Turner & Simpson . Established in 1912, the business operated from premises in Legge Lane, Birmingham (see attached). As manufacturing silversmiths and goldsmiths, they produced a wide and varied range of products through to 1979.The quality of their work is reflected in this attractive case.

The case measures 8cm x8cm and weighs a healthy 102g.

Many thanks for looking and good luck with your bidding. I will be listing more silver items from my private collection over the coming weeks and hopefully there will be something of interest to you.

Please note that I am unable to accept bidding from customers in China.
