This is an elegant solid silver matchbox holder made during the reign of King George V. It has an attractive engine turned finish throughout. There is a blank cartouche on the top which means that the lucky purchaser could personalise it should they so wish. It feels tactile to hold and is made from a good gauge of silver. A wonderful item made by the respected silversmiths, D Bros.

Condition is excellent. There are no splits or repairs, just the usual light surface marks commensurate with a piece of silver which is 103 years old. There are a couple of minor knocks on the case but they are insignificant in my opinion and do not detract from the overall appeal. It is highly desirable and would compliment any collection. My photographs confirm condition, however further images are available if required.

Hallmarks are crisp and show Birmingham 1921, the maker being D Bros. Established in 1910, the business operated from premises in Caroline Street and subsequently Augusta Street, Birmingham. As manufacturing silversmiths, they produced a wide range of products through to the 1960’s. The quality of their work is reflected in this elegant holder.

The holder measures 6.5cm x 4cm x 2cm and weighs a healthy 27g.

Many thanks for looking and good luck with your bidding. I will be listing more silver items from my private collection over the coming weeks and hopefully there will be something of interest to you.

Please note that I am unable to accept bidding from customers in China.
