The Philips family comes originally from Zilling in Lorraine, France (Lothringen in German) and next in 1784 they came to Galicia (Galizien – then Austria, next Poland, today Ukraine, Galicja) and are connected with such places in Galicia like Ugartsthal (today Siwka by Kalusz), Kalusz, Knihinin (district of Stanislawow), Stanislawow (Stanislau, Ivano-Frankovsk), Lesko, Liczkowce by Kopyczynce.

The book describes the history of the family and other settlers during the Josephine colonization (German: Josephinische Kolonisation or Josephinische Besiedlung) in the new Austrian lands, especially Austrian Galicia and Bukovina. The pictures show the book content and a list of names mentioned in the book.
