Offered for your consideration is a vintage Paper∙Mate Mark IV propelling pencil, USA-manufactured c.1979. The Mark IV pencil features a gold-plated cap with vertical striations over black plastic barrel with gold tone clip and trim. It is identical to the Profile pencil of the period, besides the gold cap finish.

So, please take a look at my large photos and read the remaining description to decide if this uncommon Paper∙Mate pencil should be yours.

This Paper∙Mate Mark IV pencil is in clean, good condition. The pencil measures 5⅛” long by ⅜” wide. There are no cracks, dings, or noteworthy scratches. But, there are plenty of tiny usage marks and finish dulling to the black barrel and some plating on the cap, as pictured. Plus, the clip rests tight against the barrel with no gap and the halves press-fit together correctly, securely. This Paper∙Mate pencil presents quite well.

More importantly, the pencil extends its .036” (0.9mm) lead reliably with a turn of the barrel. Retraction, when needed, requires a turn in the opposite direction. Plus, the eraser is worn and surely too stiff from the years to be effective. Lastly, this Paper∙Mate pencil has good mass, nice balance, and feels great on paper with the fairly large, softer lead of yesteryear!

As pictured and described, this Paper∙Mate Mark IV pencil is offered at a competitive price.
