  • "At the height of his fame in 1957, more than a century after William Blake had done the same, Salvador Dalí began working on a series of 100 paintings based on Dante’s epic poem The Divine Comedy, commissioned by the Italian government. 
  • He was given eight years to complete the artwork, Dali recreated the powerful scenes of the "divine Comedy"  
  • Divine Comedy is a poem by Dante Alighieri (1265-1321), illustrating the journey from Inferno to Purgatory to Paradise. 
  • Dante his platonic love Beatrice sends [the Roman poet] Virgil to protect and guide Dante through the beyond—a trip through Hell, Purgatory, and Paradise which Dante was to name “The Divine Comedy.”
