- Story has it that in the mid 1880s, a young man traveling in Iowa to meet his future wife imagined building a church in a valley [vale]; he set his thoughts to paper and wrote the poem "Church In The Wildwood". Years later he again traveled through the area. To his surprise he saw a little brown church nestled in the trees where years before he had envisioned this very thing.
