This coin celebrates the unity of Ukraine and Europe, and our shared values and aspirations for a peaceful and prosperous future. The celebration of Europe Day in Ukraine indicates not only geographical proximity, but also the spiritual kinship, historical heritage and solidarity that unite Ukraine with the European family.

Obverse: in the center is the stylized trident, a symbol of Ukraine. To the left of the trident are the EU’s official motto ЄДНІСТЬ У РІЗНОМАНІТТІ (United in diversity) (semicircular, above), and the vertical legend УКРАЇНА (Ukraine) (next to the trident). Beneath are the coin’s face value 5, the graphic symbol of the hryvnia, the coin’s issue year – 2024 (placed vertically), and Ukraine’s small coat of arms. To the right of the trident is a floral ornament that stands for the country’s prosperity and distinctive culture. There is also the mint mark of the NBU’s Banknote Printing and Minting Works.

Reverse: against a smooth background, are the abbreviations EU and UA, which intertwine, creating a visual symbol of the unity of Ukraine and Europe. The two letters “U” seem to be one, forming the image of a new life that sprouts under the auspices of the European Union. The legends ДЕНЬ / ЄВРОПИ / EUROPE / DAY are surrounded by 12 stars that resemble those on the EU flag, symbolizing the unity, integrity and harmony of the peoples of Europe.
