Amazing Japanese Showa period six-panel screen showing horses in a stable. Made after the famous Edo period Kano school design but in the 20th century Nihonga school. Ink and natural mineral pigments on gold leaf and mulberry paper. Set in a black lacquered wood frame with a silk brocade border. The painting has rare green tones dominating the scene with figures playing games as monkeys and dogs play. Horse motif paintings were popular subject matter in the Edo period relating to samurai class warriors. From an estate in Arizona.
