On January 7th, 1948, twenty-five year old Kentucky Air National Guard Captain Thomas F. Mantell, Jr. was requested to investigate an Unidentified Flying Object that was seen in the skies over Kentucky. Captain Mantell crashed his P-51D Mustang just outside of Franklin KY, becoming the first man in history to lose his life in pursuit of a UFO. What exactly he was chasing that fateful day is still shrouded in mystery to this very day. This is the true story of his life.
