String LADIES HIGH HEEL SHOE  Fisherman/ Whalers Sailor made, these were made by both the Grand Banks fisherman and the Whalers. They were typically made as keepsakes for their loved ones left behind. The obvious choice of material was the ever present tarred fishing line, which all fishing vessels carried. This piece is as good as it gets condition wise, and measures 7" long x 3" tall.   Truly a masterpiece of taste and design.  no tears, no  holes , I tried to count the knots per inch and I couldn't do it. This is the third shoe that I have owned and I doubt you will ever find a better and more  well crafted piece. As was often the case, this shoe has a single  coat of varnish to help it hold its form. Also, in all my collecting, this is the first string object that I have found or owned that has traces of paint on/in the interior.  Even that is in great condition. This is truly one of the best of this form of folk art available due to condition and scarcity. This shoe has been in my personal collection for about 35 years. Time to down-size.
