Offered here is a lovely antique Edwardian hand-carved sardonyx shell cameo bar brooch. It is set in a 15k yellow gold bezel setting. The subject is a woman that has adorned her hair with netting and a crown or visor. She has some similarities with Medusa but I can't be sure. This cameo has a lot of detail for such a small carving. The carving remains crisp without chips, cracks or extensive wear. The back of the brooch is hallmarked. In the next to last photo you can see that it is marked 15c with an anchor. The gold purity is 15c while the anchor is the symbol for the Birmingham, England assay office. The last photo shows more numbers and letters. These appear to be double struck making them impossible to decipher. The brooch dates to 1900-1910. The cameo measures 1/2" x 3/8" and the bar brooch is 1 5/8" long. It weighs 2.4g. The brooch is in good antique condition with light wear. Edwardian carved shell cameo bar brooch in 15k yellow gold.j
