Childs ‘ROSEBUD’ Teapot Grove & Stark, c 1883, Staffordshire Miniature

This is a miniature earthenware child’s Teapot in green transfer on a creamy white background, in a pattern named ‘ROSEBUD.’  There are several patterns in the Rosebud series featuring a variety of children with Aesthetic Movement Cartouches and accents such as, rosebuds and leaves, balls, Oriental shapes, and fans tied with bowed ribbons and with designs of insects, flowers, and other geometric shapes.  The Teapot is oblong with a loop handle, inset lid (with shell decoration) with a pointed finial.

This Teapot shows a “semi-folded rectangular cartouche with an image of a boy and girl walking…” with the girl holding a basket in her right arm and holding the boy’s arm in her left “… superimposed over a spray of delicate foliage.”  Illustrated is the girl wearing a bonnet and shawl and the boy wearing a ruffled collar, hat, and holding an umbrella in his left hand.

The Teapot is marked on the bottom with the Maker’s Mark for Grove & Stark, Palissy Works, Longton, Staffordshire, England, manufacturers of earthenware, in business from 1871 to 1885; the Registry Mark date is for September 25, 1883.

Please pardon the white glare reflections in the photos.  This child’s Teapot is in excellent condition.   There may be minimal crazing to the interior of the Teapot and very minor typical firing imperfections which sporadically may appear consistent with production from this period of time and age.  Presented as is and as found.
