c 1885 Child’s Trio ‘PANDORA’ Ralph Hammersley (and Son) R.H.&S.

This is a child’s miniature earthenware cup, saucer, and plate Trio in the ‘PANDORA’ pattern with a Registry Number: 28356, that was manufactured by Ralph Hammersley (and Son) R.H.&S., Overhouse Pottery, Burslem, England, c 1885.  Transfer printed in an earthy red the Aesthetic and Japanesque Periods influence the design with decals filled with birds, and birds in flight with butterflies, and cherry blossom branches, and with a banner of classical motifs and symbols diagonally positioned across the plate and saucer and horizontally printed on the cup.  This Trio has a light pearlware glaze.  Ralph Hammersley added the R.H.&S. to printed marks from 1884-1905.  This child’s miniature Trio consists of:

(1)   Plate:  5” Diameter

(1)   Cup:  3.25” W x 2.5” D x 2” H

(1)   Saucer:  4.25” Diameter x .875” H

       There is a hairline.

Please excuse the white glare reflections in the photos.  This child’s miniature Trio is in excellent condition and the pattern exudes a sophisticated feeling of movement and excitement in the air, you can almost hear the bird wings fluttering.  Transfer skips and smudges, pearlware ponding, minimal light crazing, stilt marks, and minor typical firing imperfections may appear sporadically consistent with the manufactory methods at the time this set was produced; but nothing that diminishes the overall display value.  Presented as is and as found.
