A two-disc reissue on Sony Classical Opera of the CBS release from Vienna in 1966.

This was actually recorded by the famous Decca engineers in the Sofiensaal, Vienna, so it sounds magnificent.

The singing is quite sensational, and totally musical, of course. Bernstein had the full measure of this score. The singers gave their all for him and the VPO play magnificently throughout. Few performances really get to the heart of this score, Karajan, Toscanini to name the best. Bernstein is worthy to put alongside them.

Everything is A1, condition-wise. The box is secure and complete, the insert small booklet is in excellent condition and the discs are superb.

Sony remastered digital stereo release in this format in 2014.
