This auction is for the self-titled CD of Kingdom Come by Kingdom Come (CD, 1988, Polydor – 835 368-2). The CD is in good condition. There are some surface defects but it plays perfectly. The jewel case is in good condition so there are some signs the back artwork has been damp at some time with some waviness of the paper.

In an era before the Page and Plant albums and Jimmy Page's reworking of Zep songs with the Black Crowes, this CD garnered a lot of attention by sounding very much like Led Zeppelin. With an audience hungry for the hard-rocking kings of the '70s, a disc billed that way was guaranteed to sell quite a few copies. "Kingdom Come" is widely considered to be the most jaw-droppingly accurate, unabashed reproduction of every aspect of Led Zeppelin's hallowed sound you are ever likely to hear. It shouldn't work at all, but somehow the band, also named Kingdom Come, curiously manage to deliver the goods despite the album being wholly derivative.

Fundamentally, Led Zeppelin did not have a defined, unvarying sound per se, so it could be said that lead singer Lenny Wolf inadvertently emulated Robert Plant's vocal style. Wolf even disputed claims that the band were duplicating specific arrangements or compositions; all musicians more or less sample the work of others to some degree, and they attested to not having even heard of the band they were accused of mirroring. In some areas, "Kingdom Come" actually evokes the inordinate, sonorous production of other hard rock bands such as Bon Scott-era AC/DC and early Def Leppard, though the comparisons to Led Zeppelin were all critics focused on at the time of its release. Despite being so unpopular with Led Zeppelin fans, Kingdom Come achieved modest commercial success with their debut, which remains their biggest selling recording to date.

In essence, the album is redolent of blues and classic rock, but it is also an incredibly varied, masterfully executed, sonically impeccable collection of powerhouse rock songs undeserving of the baggage it received in 1988.
