WWII HAMILTON 3992B NAVIGATION MASTER WATCH 1942 ROYAL NAVY ISSUED - for SPARES or REPAIR

NOT RUNNING SOLD AS IS FOR SPARES OR REPAIR. Currently presents as being "overwound" (aka needs a service). Balance wheel rotates. Movement looks clean otherwise, and I really think it just needs a service to get it running again. Only other issue is a chip out of the enamel dial at 7.40 and a small crack in the glass.

Below is a bit more about this cool WWII military issued pocket watch;

Hamilton British Military 3992B Navigation Master nickel cased deck watch, circa 1942, the dial with Military arrow signed Hamilton with Arabic numerals, minute markers and outer five minute divisions, centre seconds, black hands, the screw case inscribed 'Navigation Master Watch, 0552/520-3049 (stamped over MER'S PART NO. 3992B), , Serial No. 1829-1942, Hamilton Watch Co. H.S.3 (crossed through)', 52mm

This is a top grade Master Navigation pocket made by the Hamilton Watch Co, USA and used by the US government for military issue pocket watches during the Second World War. It was then sent to the UK where it was deployed by the Royal Navy and marked on the back with a broad military issue arrow and also HS3 markings. Accordingly, this watch was made for the US Government then sold to the UK government by the Royal Navy and then the Hydrographic Service.

This is a particular fine and rare example as it has the original American military markings AND the UK government military issue arrow on the dial.

Movement – the high grade nickel ¾ plate movement has a lever escapement, a capped escape wheel and lever and a micrometer regulator. The movement has a wheel positioned on the top plates – this is for the centre seconds wheel on the dial. The movement is decorated with damascening and is signed “Hamilton Watch Co, USA, 3992B, 22 Jewels, U.S. GOVT Adj Temp & 6 positions".

Case – the movement comes in a base metal open face case, which has a screw off back and bezel. The case has engraved contract details on the back “Navigation Master Watch, 0552/520-3049 -> serial no. 1829 - 1942 Hamilton Watch Co”. “HS3” has been crossed out and so has the original serial number and the number 0552 / 520-8049 engraved on top along with a government issue arrow. The case has engine turned edges and has light scratches on the back.

Dial – white enamel - small chip at 7.40.

The watch measures 51mm wide x 17mm deep

The watch has a synthetic glass which has a small crack in it.

The watch is stem wound / stem set

All in all a lovely WWII HAMILTON 3992B NAVIGATION MASTER WATCH 1942 ROYAL NAVY ISSUED - for SPARES or REPAIR
