For sale we have a neat Tissot, 9ct gold watch from the late 1930s in an octagonal case. It has a complex and well-designed sector dial with matte and satin finishing. The Tissot signing is of Art Deco design with elongated T and is very aesthetically pleasing. It has beautiful thermally blued hands which shine in the light and catch the eye. The case is manufactured by Dennison and has hallmarking for 9ct gold from Birmingham assay office. It is a heavy and well-made case. It measures 30mm x 30mm with is neat, but the lug-to-lug measurement of 37.5mm adds to the presence on the wrist. Inside is the manual wind Tissot calibre 27 movement, with a jewel count of 15. It is keeping time to within +35 second a day.

Overall it is a very interesting and well-designed watch, with an excellent dial design and well-made 9ct gold Octagonal case.

Dial:

The dial is in good original condition. It has some speckled ageing, but this is even. There is one scratch between 12 and 1 O’clock visible in certain lights. It has a sector design with a matte finish to the outside and a satin shine to the inner circle. All signing is clear and original.

Hands:

The hands are original. They are thermally blued and are in good condition with no bending. The thermally blued tone is bright.

Glass:

The crystal is a modern replacement in good condition with some very light marking.

Crown:

The crown is original and is in good condition.

Case:

The case is 9ct and is in decent condition. It has polished bevelled edges, with a polished finish all over. There are light surface scratches associated with age. There are no dents to the front.

Caseback:

The case back is 9ct gold and it is in good condition, with one slight dimpled dent and light surface scratching. It opens as it should and seals tightly. The hinge is in good condition.

Strap:

The strap is a new, genuine leather strap with fold over tabs, to fit an open-ended strap.

It will fit from a up to an 8-inch wrist diameter.

Movement:

The movement is a calibre 27 from Tissot. The movement is manual wind with 15 jewels, a frequency of 18,000 BPH and a power reserve of 43 hours.

The service history is unknown. The movement is in good condition both cosmetically and in terms of function. It is keeping time to within +35 seconds a day with an amplitude of 240 degrees and a beat error of 3.0m/s.
