Comment Belgian-born Martin Margiela founded his eponymous brand in 1988. Margiela believed in anonymity, consistently refusing interviews and never appearing in public during his career. His conceptual methods, such as reconstructing and redefining clothing and show styles, influenced many people and is said to be one of the most influential maisons (designers) in the history of fashion. Following his retirement from Margiela in 2009, Martin Margiela took over the reins of his Paris-based design team, and in 2014 John Galliano was appointed as his creative director. Led by Galliano, Martin Margiela continues the brand's signature deconstructed designs, reviving classic silhouettes.
