  • Technik: Handkolorierter Kupferstich auf Papier

  • Bezeichnung: Links fünf Ansichten als Kartusche. Sie zeigen die Nil-Fälle, mehrere Pyramiden, Grotten und den reisenden Künstler am Zeichenbrett mit zwei Ägyptern. Paul Lucas war ein französischer Kaufmann, Forschungsreisender und Altertumskundler im Dienst Ludwigs XIV. Er unternahm drei ausgedehnte Reisen nach Ägypten und in den vorderen Orient. Die Karte wurde von Johann Baptist HOMANN (1664 Oberkammlach - 1724 Nürnberg) herausgegeben. Dank diesen Forschungsreisen konnte die vorliegende illustrierte Karte entstehen.

  • Zustand: Guter Zustand. Mit einer waagerechten Knickfalte über die Mitte des Blattes. Ein rückseitiger Klebestreifen fixiert am linken Rand die Knickfalte. Mit Fehlstellen (Ecken links oben und unten), die durch hinterlegte Papierstreifen restauriert und ergänzt wurden. Das Blatt hat sich altersgemäß verfärbt, ist stellenweise fleckig und trägt vereinzelte Risse am Blattrand.

  • Inscription: On the left, five views as cartouches. They show the Nile Falls, several pyramids, grottos and the travelling artist at the drawing board with two Egyptians. Paul Lucas was a French merchant, explorer and antiquarian in the service of Louis XIV. He made three extended journeys to Egypt and the Near East. The map was published by Johann Baptist HOMANN (1664 Oberkammlach - 1724 Nuremberg). Thanks to these research trips, the present illustrated map could be produced.

  • Condition: Good condition. With a horizontal crease across the centre of the sheet. An adhesive strip on the reverse fixes the crease at the left margin. With missing parts (upper left and lower corners), which have been restored and supplemented by backed paper strips. The sheet has discoloured due to its age, is stained in places and has isolated tears at the edge of the sheet.
