was published in 1873 by Scribner, Armstrong & Co.  A novel of Victorian description about a laird or country gentleman's historic house and the personal lives or singleness of its tenants, 209 pages.   Printed in double columns.  

Forest green  fine cloth binding has ornate gilt band decoration at front and all along spine.  About 9" tall.  

In good condition, the book has this wear:  Small ripples to cloth at front.   A few small foxing spots at back, smudging or dustiness at front - slight.   Very light rubbing to gilt at spine.   Corners bent & wear to them, also at spine ends.   Strong condition for its age.
