Does it have a faulty adapter mount?
The Game Gear originally had surface mount capacitors 11-14 for screen (depending on the motherboard) and 5 for the sound.
Over it's lifespan they have become defective, and leak caustic acid inside your Game Gear!

Fully working LCD. Not a modern LCD fitted and all capacitors replaced for brightness control and sound and Power Adapter
