The Fine Books and Manuscripts sale held on Thursday, December 9, 2010. The 276 lot sale brought in more than $1 million,

There were some great results spanning the centuries from Leonardo da Vinci in the 1500s to JFK in the 1960s."

The top lot was the Divina proportione by Luca Pacioli dated June 1, 1509 (est. $120,000-180,000, sold for $170,000), followed by Purchas his Pilgrimes by Samuel Purchas, printed by William Stansby for Henrie Fetherstone, 1625-1626 (est. $60,000-80,000, sold for $79,300); and a Bible in Latin printed in Basel in 1474 (est. $20,000-40,000, sold for $48,800).

Additional highlights included: a first edition of The Spy Who Loved Me by Ian Fleming, signed and inscribed to Robert F. Kennedy in 1962 (est. $10,000-15,000, sold for $46,360); La Divina Commedia, the first illustrated edition of Dante, and the second illustrated book printed in Florence (est. $25,000-35,000, sold for $45,140); and a copy of the first edition Gulliver's Travels bearing the signature of Jonathan Swift (est. $20,000-30,000, sold for $24,400).

Of particular interest from the estate of White House photographer Cecil Stoughton were: a series of 15 albums with approximately 430 photographs from June 1963 to Kennedy's assassination in November, then the inauguration of Johnson, and the funeral on the 25th of that month (est. $8,000-12,000, sold for $21,960); a photograph signed and inscribed for Stoughton by JFK of himself and his children in the Oval Office, (est. $7,000-9,000, sold for $18,300); and Stoughton's famous photograph of LBJ's being sworn into office aboard Air Force One, signed and inscribed by Johnson (est. $5000-7000, sold for $13,400).

Shipping via international - For the majority of our international buyers we default to USPS Priority Mail flat rate shipping. Please Note: We can sometimes fit two or more catalogs into one P.M. envelope within the 4 U.S. pound weight limit - BUT check with us first to make sure we can. With USPS Priority Mail flat rate box we can fit up to 7 to 10 catalogs depending on the size into one box within the 20 U.S. pound weight limit - great savings on shipping multiple catalogs.
