The Complete DUKW  Historical Reference By David Doyle. Hard Cover with over 300 pages and around 750 rare archive photos. Hurriedly developed in 1942 under the auspices of the National Defense Research Committee, a think tank comprised of many of the leading scientists in the United States, the DUKW became arguably the most successful amphibious vehicle ever produced. Combining a hull form engineered by noted yacht designers Sparkman & Stephens with their own 2½ ton 6x6 truck design, General Motors produced 21,147 these vehicles during World War II. This comprehensive volume relies on never-before tapped primary source documents from the archives of General Motors, the National Defense Research Committee, marine architects Sparkman & Stephens, the US Army, and others to tell - for the first the first time accurately - the story of the DUKW and the men whose lives it touched. This 75,000-word book is packed with rare archival photos detailing  the origin, design, numerous changes throughout production as well as wartime use of the DUKW. Covered are campaigns in Sicily, Mainland Europe, India and the far-flung islands of the Pacific, as well as its subsequent use in Korea, along with authorized field modifications as well as the follow-on Flying DUKW, Superduck, and Drake, and DUKW use in the 21st century. Illustrated with more than 750 photographs, detailed line drawings and colour profiles; 304 pages. Price £49.99 inc p&p UK. (or £20 for Europe & Rest of the world p&p).

POSTAGE PRICING! - Dear All, Our postage prices are based on Current Royal Mail prices and all are sent 1st Class recorded (in the UK) and Air mail International Sign For for overseas orders.Our/Royal Mail p&p prices, go on weight, and are set by the Royal Mail, not us. And are not set at how many items in a box - they only go on weight (and books are heavy).  In April 2012 Royal Mail have put up their prices, averaging from 15% to 40%, So sorry to say, but we now have to increase our postage prices too, so these prices advertised here are fixed, sorry, but this is beyond our control - Its down to Royal Mail, not us. This includes overseas postage too. And remember books are heavy, so hence not cheap to post anymore. As for sending any other way! Sorry its are company policy to send them that way, due to past miss-lead mail, not getting received and then we have the expense of re-sending goods out at our expense (loosing money).
So sorry (1st Class recorded (in the UK) and Air mail International ‘Sign For’ for overseas orders), is the only way we send them. Please do remember that our books are very cheap, and buying from Europe etc is far better for you right now with the £ against the Euro etc. Also, please note: that we lose out, as Ebay takes their cut, as does Paypal, so we 'on average', lose £5 from overseas sales (and now Ebay charges extra for postage too, thus we get even less!). So I am afraid, that our prices, are as listed. And are fixed. So please do not complain to us about our p&p Prices etc. If we can help on larger orders, please contact us first before placing an order and we shall try?
But again, thanks for the enquiry and looking - Mark.
