What is a PFD?

Personal Flotation Device - PFD

Australian Standards require you use a type 2 (new standard is called 50) or type 3 (new standard is called 50s) PFD in Australia when kayaking depending on where you are on the water - It varies from state to state. Victoria for example is a blanket rule - you have to have one everywhere.

Beware internationally sold vests - as most do not have PFD certification relevant to Australian Standards. You can be fined by maritime.
