Set in apocryphal Medicine Bow, Wyoming in the 1890s, it continues the stories of various characters who helped advance manifest destiny and settle the American West. This particular season brought back series mainstays James Drury (as The Virginian) and Doug McClure (as Trampas, but also brought in new characters, including Shiloh Ranch proprietor John Grainger (Charles Bickford). Supporting cast members include Sara Lane, Clu Gulager and Don Quine, while this particular season features such guest stars as Pernell Roberts, Susan Strasberg and Myrna Loy.
