Yosegi Himitsu Bako/ Japanese Puzzle Box is the traditional Japanese Secret box originated in Japan's culturally rich Edo Period. It was first used by Samurai to send secret messages. The surface of the box is covered with Yosegi, traditional Japanese wooden mosaic. Even nowadays the Puzzle Box manufacturing process is not automated and each box is handmade in Hakone region by Japanese masters.

Each puzzle box is slightly different. You may receive a box which has a slightly different pattern from the picture because each puzzle box is unique handmade by Japanese masters.

These boxes have no apparent method or place of opening.  However, if you look carefully, you may find panels or surfaces which will slide.  Each style of box has a specific number of steps, which must be performed in proper sequence, in order to open it.  (Directions for solving the puzzle are included with each box.)
