Large COVERED URN Pedestal Base & Mask Handles- Fine FRENCH FAIENCE Signed c1920

This is a Large COVERED URN Pedestal Base & Mask Handles- Fine FRENCH FAIENCE Signed, circa 1920. It is beautifully decorated and very well-modeled.  This Covered Urn is modeled in deep relief; the hand painting, décor and glaze are very well done.

This rare fine covered urn:

- is French Faience, made in France;

- is nicely modeled with both rounded shape top vase and base plinth, and then with eight scalloped relief oblong form reserves on base and eight on top;

- has two large stylized mythological style face mask handles in relief;

- is decorated in white with a background of custard yellow, and is nicely enameled with colors including sepia brown and green;

- is glazed in white on the inside and underside bottom, and the rim foot is unglazed;

- is signed with a stylized makers mark, the marks under the glaze on the underside bottom.

The French Faience Large COVERED URN with Pedestal Base and Mask Handles is in very good condition, as noted. Condition status includes minimal normal wear and rubbing, glaze losses, firing flaws, crazing and fretting. Overall, this work is sound, having no chips, cracks, or major defects, and having had no apparent repairs or restorations. This item is sold as is, as described. This work is French faience fine art pottery. This style includes production techniques whereby tin glazes and decorations are applied and worked in stages upon a modeled terra cotta pottery form, and fired several times in a kiln.
